Limited sale support
Limited support from a small gallery of buyers marked the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s first annua! sale of registered ewes and lambs at the Addington Show Grounds yesterday. About half of the 96 pens containing nearly 200 sheep were sold at auction.
Easily the top price was $7OO for a Lincoln, ewe from H. E. and Y. C. Williams, of Blenheim. Another Lincoln from the same vendors fetched $6OO.
Ten Romneys from D. A. Robertson, Gore, ranged from $l2O to $3lO and six Romneys from D., M. and J. D. Stowell, Methven, made $145 to $l7O. Among other strongwoolled breeds were six English Leicesters from H. Bennett, Ashburton, at $250 to $270, and seven English
Leicesters from J. D. B. Reid, Darfield, at $llO. Mr Reid also sold 24 English Leicester lambs at $65. Four Corriedales from R. D. and S. G. A. Hoban, Culverden, made $llO, A. L. McKerchar, Waimate, sold two Border Leicesters at $7O and $lOO, and N. G. McKer-. char, Waimate, one Border Leicester at $2OO.
Eight Suffolks from M. J. and M. A. Loffhagen (Culverden) made $l9O to $2lO, D., M. and J. D. Stowell sold three Suffolks at $llO, J. T. Miles (Ashburton) five Suffolks at $llO to $lBO, A. J. and D. A. Brown (Oamaru) six Suffolks at $ll5 to $l5O, and Springside Suffolk Stud (Oamaru) six at $7O to $l7O. G. R. and G. N. Millar (Southbridge) sold four Dorset Downs at $lOO.
