Te Maori sets records
Te Maori’s record attendance for the Robert McDougall Art Gallery is growing as about 2000 people visit the exhibition each day. The total for the exhibition of Maori taonga (treasures) last evening was about 107,000 visits. The previous record for an exhibition was 71,000 visits. The gallery’s director, Mr John Coley, the
exhibition was attracting many people more than once. Children who visited with school parties were returning with their parents. The gallery had organised 22 corporate evenings or private showings, far more than for any previous exhibition. Te Maori will close at the gallery on May 17 and will then be shown in Auckland.
