Margarine industry changes

PA Wellington Important decisions on the future of the margarine industry were announced by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Caygill. Changes after the margarine industry review include repeal of the Margarine Act, 1908, and amendment of the Food Regulations Act, 1984, to allow the sale of coloured saturated table margarine. The repeal of this legislation will take effect on January 1, 1990, unless during the 1988 Review of C.E.R. New Zealand is able to secure improved access for our dairy products from an earlier date than January, 1990, Mr Caygill said. Import licensing for margarine, other edible fats and hydrogenated vegetable oils will also be phased out from July 1, 19|7. . f
