South Island heritage
Sir,—What a surprise, and indeed a pleasure, to turn. to “Education ExPress” (May 4) and to see an equal number of women representative of our South Island heritage. Too often women are misrepresented, if mentioned at all. It is an encouraging sign to know that the children of today will receive information of the heritage of both sexes. Children can learn of the Kate Sheppards and Frances Hodgkins of our history as well as the Ernest Rutherfords and James K. Baxters. I commend Defyd Williams and Coral Broadbent on the extent and equality of their research.—Yours, etc., JENNIFER A. LEAHY. May 4, 1987.
