‘Positive leads’ on robbery
The police are following posiitive lines of inquiry in the hunt for the Beckenham Trust Bank robber, but have yet to find the gold Ford Telstar car which was used as a getaway vehicle last Wednesday morning. “We particularly want to hear from anyone who has sighted this Ford Telstar,” said Detective Sergeant Neville Higgison.
He said the car has been variously described by witnesses as being between silver and gold in colour. The car’s registration number is LK 5873, but Detective Sergeant Higgison said people should not assume these plates were still on the car. The police believe the car, stolen from camping huts near Kaikoura on
April 11, has been dumped. The robber, a European aged in his early 20s, escaped with about $20,000 after he ordered three tellers to fill his back pack with $lO, $2O, and $5O notes. He drove north-west on Strickland Street in the Telstar which was last seen at the junction with Boon Street.
