Rescue of cat costs owner $500

PA Auckland A West Auckland man has paid $5OO to have his cat rescued from a treetop by helicopter. Swif had been 15m up a tree for a week when her owner, Mr Steve Edgar, called in the emergency services. The Westpac helicopter and crew yesterday went to the Titirangi property where Swif sat in a tree in dense busb. The cat was missing for five days before Mr. Edgar, a company director, spotted her in the tree. The tree could not be climbed, and the bush was too thick to bring in

ladders or vehicles. “I do not care how much it costs to get her out,” he said. “I could not live with myself if she died or fell out of the tree.” A nervous Mr Edgar watched as a man lowered from the helicopter approached the cat Before the man could reach her, Swif jumped. Mr Edgar searched his two-acre property looking for his pet The helicopter operation controller, Mr Rodger Curtice, said the exercise was like others, except the object of rescues did not usually run away.
