Value of industry sales up 7.9 p.c.
PA Wellington The total value of manufacturers sales and other income in the quarter ended December 31 was $8054.6 million, according to the Government Statistician. This was an increase of 7.9 per cent compared with the value reported in the December quarter of 1985.
Increased sales and other income were reported by seven of the 10 industry groups surveyed, when compared with the levels recorded in the December, 1985, quarter. These were paper and printing, up 27.8 per cent to $1064 million; textiles and clothing manufacturers, up 20.1 per cent to $744.2 million; chemical
manufacturing, up 17.4 per cent to $1074.5 million; other food manufacturers, up 10.6 per cent to $1073.8 million; nonmetallic mineral product manufacturing, up 8.9 per cent to $284.6 million; basic metal manufacturing, up 5.9 per cent to $271.8 million; and fabricated metal product manufacturing, up 3.9 per cent to $1780.2 million.
