Tertiary education
Sir, —I found Callum Reid’s comments on Labour’s approach to user-pays (April 20) rather pointless and misleading. While it is true that Labour has not adopted any official policy on this issue, it is obvious what Labour’s attitude is. : Ministers such as Roger Douglas and David Caygill have openly voiced their support for some form of user-pays system within tertiary education. It will only be Jia matter of time before an official policy is announced. As for-Mr Reid’s disapproval of the burning of effigies as a form of protest, I found it an effective and original way of gaining some' awareness of the problems faced with ; :a user-pays system. Perhaps if Mr Reid had attended he may have learned something as well. Yours, etc., ADAM HOLLAND. April 20, 1987. '■
