Intermediate rugby
The Christchurch intermediate schools’ rugby competition is running again, through tangible and welcome assistance from the C.R.F.U. With the proliferation of intermediate schools in recent years, in far-flung suburbs, the old Tuesday inter-school competition lapsed because of transport problems. Now, the C.R.F.U. is providing the financial support for buses to transport teams to and from
Hagley Park for a full intermediate school championship. Matches will be played every Tuesday throughout the second term. The championship will be decided under a novel system designed to play down the purely competitive aspect of the sport. . Points gained from tries and goals scored will be added to points awarded by referees for aspects such as sportsmanship
and turn-out, to find the “true winner” of each match.
Form I and II players will be eligible for two representative sides to be chosen for matches against North Canterbury and Marlborough later in the season, and for participation in a South Island tournament (involving Southland, Otago and Canterbury) at Lincoln College in the first week of the August holidays.
