IMF predicts slowdown

NZPA-AP Washington A slowdown of output and incomes for the United States and other big industrial countries during the early 1990 s has been predicted in estimates made available by the International Monetary Fund. The 2.7 per cent annual growth for the United States foreseen between 1986 and 1988 is expected to decline to 2.6 per cent

for the 1989 to 1995 period. The United States Government has predicted a rise from the current 2.7 per cent to 3.6 in 1989 and 1990, and a slowdown to 3.4 per cent in 1992. Japan’s growth was expected to slow from 3.6 per cent for 1986-1988 to 3.1 per cent for 1989-95; West Germany, from 2.6 to 2.2; France 2.8 to 2.6; Canada, 3 to 2.7; Italy 2.6 to 2.5 and Britain 2.2 to 2.
