Heinz gets navy bean contract

NZPA-AAP Brisbane Some may regard Kingaroy as the home of the peanut, but to H. J. Heinz and Co. it means beans. The South Queensland hamlet, also the home town of Premier Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen, has secured a sAusts million a year contract to supply the famous food company with navy beans which are processed into baked beans.

Sir Joh officially opened a sAustsoo, ooo cleaning plant and bulk handling facility built at Kingaroy as a result of the prized Heinz contract. The deal involved supplying Heinz in Britain between 3000 and 5000 tonnes of navy beans for at least the next eight years.

There was also the possibility the board may supply Heinz plants in New Zealand.
