Familiar roar at Cust
A familiar roar will once again disturb the rustic tranquility of the Cust district when the New Zealand miniature T.T. championships are held tomorrow. The hills around Moeraki Downs, near Cust, will reverberate to the sound of finely tuned motor-cycles as leading riders from many parts of the nation open their throttles on the undulating 2km track of grass and dirt. There will be racing in three classes, open, 250 cu cm, and 125 cu cm, and also a special event for pre-1975 scramblers. Leading Christchurch contenders are expected to be James Lavender and David Ollis (open class), Gary Tomes and Kelly Garland (250 cu cm), and Dean Bierd (125 cu cm). The latter will encounter spirited opposition from Gore’s Brent Scammel. Rating will start at 11 a.m., and there will be roadside directions from Fernside.
