Workshop Assoc, to be reviewed

An independent review of the Canterbury Sheltered Workshop Association’directions and “alleged difficulties” will be made soon. The president of the association, Mr Barry Rich, and the director of the Social Welfare Department, Mr Maurice Doocey, issued a joint statement yesterday. The terms of reference were being drawn up and would be announced soon, together with the name of the person appointed to

make the review, the men said. In the meantime, the department and council of the Canterbury Sheltered Workshop considered that it was in the best interests of all that people “await the commencement of the review,” they said. Disagreements have plagued the Sheltered Workshop Association for some time after complaints by staff members about conditions of work, and after applications for membership of the association were refused.
