Cycling for a cause
A Canadian and an expatriate New Zealander cycled into Christchurch yesterday at the end of a 1000 km journey with a cause. Carol Knott (right) and Sylvia SinclairThompson have spent two months on a bicycle built for two touring New Zealand and promoting the work of Amnesty International. Miss Knot, a physiotherapist, and Miss Sinclair - Thompson, formerly of Canterbury but now resident in British Columbia, cycled south from Auckland on their distinctive Cana-dian-built Buddy Bike. During the journey, the pair spoke in schools and addressed meetings of
Amnesty International branches. Although their travels have been smooth, “hills are another story,” Miss Knott said yesterday. The partnership ends today with Miss Knott’s return to Canada. Miss Sinclair-Thompson will fly home in three weeks. The Buddy Bike will find a new home in New Zealand — its owners hope to give it to the Royal Foundation for the Blind.
