Democratic conference begins today

Delegates from throughout the South Island will attend the New Zealand Democratic Party’s southern regional conference in Christchurch this week-end. About 50 delegates are expected to attend the three days of discussions, speeches and candidate’s meetings from today . to Sunday, at the Meadow Park Lodge. The president of the Democratic Party, Mr Stefan Lipa, and the party’s spokesman on

agriculture, Mr Bill Thompson, will speak at the conference today. The mayor of Christchurch, Sir Hamish Hay, Will officially open the conference tomorrow at 9 a.m. The leader of the party, Mr Neil Morrison, will give the main address on Sunday morning. The programme also includes an open forum, a candidates* meeting, and a series of internal sessions to discuss remits and party policy.
