FUTURES August wool firmer
August wool, futures prices were firmer in line with the physical market yesterday, in spite of the New Zealand dollar holding at above US57c. However, other months did not look as confident. Mr Guy Spooner, a trader for Marshall Futures, said that 35F2D quote for crossbred fleece was firmer at 365 c a kg at wool sales yesterday. However, the contract had traded on a low volume, he said. The two interest rate contracts closed on, or near, their lows yesterday as interest rates for both Government stock, commercial bills, and call money continued to consolidate. The U.S. dollar contract was more active yesterday than it has been for sometime with 17 lots done. The April contract was 167 points down on Wednesday’s close. The premium between the Barclays share index
futures contract and the physical index gained about 4 points yesterday to stand at 50. The contract was traded narrowly, and on a quieter' volume. It finished 2 points above the previous session at 3235. Details of yesterday’s trading were: SUS CONTRACTS Mth Open H/L Last Vol Apr 1.7400 7470/7390 7390 4 May 1.7700 7730/7650 7673 13 .
