Soccer import quits
PA Nelson A Canadian soccer player, Larry Dill, has quit the Nelson team after just two national league matches. The 24-year-old midfielder is at present in Fiji on his way back to Vancouver after deciding he was no longer motivated to play the game. Dill was Nelson's most recent signing and appeared keen to complete a season of national league soccer, but he told Nelson’s coach, Barry Simmonds, last week, that he lacked the necessary motivation
to play at that level and was returning home. “He’s got more stamps on his passport than Henry Kissinger," said Mr Simmonds, referring to Dill’s reputation as a tumbleweed, having already played soccer in Canada, England and Australia before shifting to Nelson at the start of the season. Dill’s place in the team has been taken by a Londoner, Jimmy Mahoney, who played his first full league match against Mount Maunganui last Sunday.
