Anti-violence bill soon
PA Wellington New anti-violence legislation could be introduced in Parliament as early as next week. The measures are likely to contain mandatory prison terms for violent offenders, minimum 10year terms without parole for those sentenced to life imprisonment, and provision allowing court for the removal of
gang fortresses. The Minister of Justice, Mr Palmer, told Parliament that “substantial progress” had been made on drafting the legislation, based on the recommendation of the Roper Committee of Inquiry into violence.
