Webb Ellis Cup
The Webb Ellis Cup which will be at stake in the final of the World Cup rugby tournament in Auckland on June 20.
The cup was brought from London to Christchurch on Tuesday by the chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union, Russell Thomas, and displayed briefly at Rugby Park on Wednesday night when Canterbury played South Canterbury. The cup, bought in London, is 83 years old. It is made of silver with
an outer coating of gold and according to Mr Thomas is worth "tens of thousands of dollars.” It will be housed in a vault in Wellington until the World Cup starts. The winning country at Auckland will hold the cup until the next World Cup, but it will receive a smaller replica to keep permanently.
The players in the winning team will each receive a medallion to mark their success.
