Murdoch, Hooper lead aggregates

Two of the most experienced first grade cricketers in Canterbury, Tim Murdoch (Riccarton) and Garry Hooper (EastShirley), topped the interclub batting and bowling aggregates, respectively, in the season which ended last Saturday.- ’ ' Murdoch, whose' senior; career extends back to V 1974-75, enjoyed ; his: second most productive summer. He accumulated 726 runs, 19 more than his club-mate, Stu Gambles.

The only bowler .to exceed 50 / wickets, Hooper — who had his first senior games in 197374 — had an advantage of seven wickets over another medium-pacer,. Ken Taylor (Woolston Working Men’s Club).

Both Murdoch and Hooper were fifth on the lists of leading batting and bowling averages. The batting was headed by Nick Foster, who did not secure a permanent place in the Lancaster Park line-up until representative calls created a vacancy in mid-season. Foster began with a series of useful scores, made an unbeaten century against East-Shirley and later scored 82 not out against Burnside-West. He was only twice dismissed for single-figure scores in 12 innings. The High School Old Boys all-rounder, Chris Flanagan, and David Boyle, of Bumside-West, were the only others to average .40 or more.
