Two fencing competitions — one for pairs and the other for singles — will carry total prizemoney worth more than $3750 at the SouthIsland machinery field days at Lincoln.

The contest will be judged on time, workmanship and appearance, electrical connections, strainer assemblies, wire tension and tie-offs, and economy of material. The first three placegetters will receive product vouchers.
The singles competition on Thursday will require entrants to erect 60 metres of Hurricane goat fence. The winner will win a trip to the 19th Golden Pliers Fencing Championship at Mystery Creek, Hamilton, as well as product vouchers. A break-down of the points is: Quality and appearance: strainer and assemblies 70 points, intermediate 40 points, goat fence 40 points, gate 40 points.
