Committee on violence

Sir,—Thank you for printing in full the recommendations from the committee on violence. If what the committee is saying is accurate, that 80 per cent of violence in New Zealand is perpetrated in the family (and I believe that that is true) and if the media, the Government and our community continue to give 80 per cent attention to 20 per cent of the recommendations, then we may be lucky to‘get even 20 per cent change in the amount of violence in the community. Those recommendations concerning the family need at least 80 per cent of the attention. I’m wondering why this isn’t happening.—Yours, etc., HELEN CAMPBELL. March 14, 1987.
