Mr Chicken George is Paeroa prospect

Special correspondent Auckland Mr Chicken George looked unlucky not to get a bigger share of the stake when he last raced and it will be no more than his due if he wins the L. and P. Cup at Paeroa today. A couple of checks, a severe one at the 700 metres, in particular, cost Mr Chicken George his chance last time, at Avondale on February 28.

That was the middledistance Whetu won so well, from start to finish. Whetu, meanwhile,

went close to another all-the-day win at Te Awamutu last Saturday. He was caught only in the last few strides of a solidly run 2000 metres. His style is to race freely in front and he is one Mr Chicken George will again have to beat in the first leg of the T.A.B. double. A pretty good field will assemble for to day’s 2000 metres with Lady Tristana, Biltmore, Bounty Hawk and Gold Lomond among the other possibilities. Bounty Hawk, now six years old, has shown only occasional signs,

lately, of the form that made him such a fine three-year-old in Australia. He was miles below his best last time, when well beaten behind Abit Leica at Te Rapa, but managed a second, just previously, over 1900 metres at Rotorua. Lady Tristana, except for a last-start lapse at Trentham, has been racing consistently well.
