AUSTRALIA Correction continues down

NZPA-AAP Sydney The downward correction on Australian sharemarkets gathered momentum yesterday as early profit taking among key industrials turned to heavy selling and spilled over into other sectors.

Media, entrepreneurs, developers, financials and miners all came under pressure in a correction which began on Monday after a string of record performances last week.

Turnover was heavy as 175.29 million shares worth sAust2Bl.BBM changed hands with rises outstripping falls by three to two. Several large parcels of shares changed hfindc with RWP APAin attracting demand from investors wishing to gain entry into its gold company float. BHP rose 5c to a record close of 1080 after peaking at 1100 as 1.92 M shares were exchanged. Bond Corp was also heavily traded as 4M shares were exchanged in a special sale
