Lincoln professor

Alternative farming options and the science of farm management are two key concerns of Lincoln College’s new Professor of Farm Management, Tony Bywater, who has been appointed to the Department of Farm and Property Management, Accounting and Valuation.

Thirty - eight - year - old Professor Bywater comes to the position after two years at Ruakura Agricultural Research Centre where he was senior agricultural economist with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, and group leader of the centre’s

economic research section.

Professor Bywater said he was drawn back to Lincoln College, where he had studied in the 19705, because in the difficult times farming was going through there was scope in the Farm Management Department to help farmers look at alternative farming options and improve their methods of farm management. These were two areas which interested him greatly.

He said his basic interests were the analysis of livestock production systems; data and information management on

farms; decision-making methods; and the application of computers to farming.
