M.A.F. office closes
The M.A.F. information centre at the Addington saleyards has been forced to close because of the economic cut-backs under the Government’s user-
pays policy. Mr John Napier, who started the information centre in December, 1980, said nearly 2500 inquiries had been handled by the centre during the last six years. As a public relations exercise the centre had been well received and of good value, but
unfortunately times had changed and, because it could not pay its way, it had been axed. The information centre was just one of a number
of activities the M.A.F.’s animal health division had to curtail because of a reduced operating budget, said Mr Napier. With the restructuring of the M.A.F. on April 1, marketing could again be on the priority list, but at the moment the future is uncertain.
