Sightings of car sought by police

Detectives investigating the death of Michael James Dowling, aged 28, of Christchurch, last week, still seek help from the public. The body of Mr Dowling, of Shirley, was found in a vacant section in Grimseys Road, Papanui, last Friday.

Two men have since appeared in the District Court at Dunedin charged with the murder of Mr Dowling. Detective Inspector David Haslett, who heads the inquiry, said that the police still wanted to hear of sightings of a fawnyellow 1965 Hillman Super Minx car early on Friday morning.

Information is needed on the movements of this car in the area of Marshland Road, Grimseys Road, Prestons Road, Winters Road and Skipton Street. A blood-stained brick or block might also be in the area, said Mr Haslett. Anyone who saw activity in MacFarlane Park, Shirley, early on Friday morning, is also asked to get in touch with the police.
