Anaru Matthews, a Paparua Prison inmate who made off from a work party yesterday, is still at large. Matthews, aged 25, was working in the prison’s gardens when he escaped at 12.45 p.m.
He is described as a Maori of slim build, 171 cm (sft 7in) tall, with black hair and tattoos on the arms, hands and round the left eye. The police have warned that he should not be approached. He was serving a three-month sentence on car conversion, burglary, and cannabis charges.
