Gale wins play-off
NZPA-AFP Kuala Lumpur Terry Gale, of Australia, defeated an American, Greg Twiggs, in a thrilling sudden-death play-off in Kuala Lumpur to become the first golfer to win the Malaysian Open title three times. The two golfers were level on 280 after four
rounds, forcing the third sudden-death play-off since the tournament’s inception in 1962. In the play-off, both hit their second shots to within a metre of the flag. Gale scored a birdie to win the title after Twiggs’ putt stopped centimetres short.
