Four named from Canty
Four Canterbury smallbore marksmen have been named in a New Zealand squad to prepare for the Australian championships in Brisbane at Easter and to contest national trials to select the team for the Oceania regional championships in Christchurch in February. The shooters, named after the national outdoor championships at Blenheim recently, are: lan Pottinger (open prone), Pauline Burgess (women’s prone and air rifle), Tony Burgess (open three posi-
tion and air rifle), and Lindsay Barnes (intermediate prone, three position and air rifle). The Oceania championships act as a qualifying quota match for the Olympic games and all disciplines — smallbore, fullbore, pistols, running bore, trap and skeet and deerstalkers — will be represented. Australia and Papua New Guinea will compete alongside New Zealand, and there is a possibility of other countries being invited to compete.
