Obituary Miss Joan Prisk

Miss Joan Dorothy Prisk, principal of Christchurch Girls’ High School since 1969, died in Dunedin Hospital yesterday. She was 62. She had planned to retire as principal of the school in May.

Miss Prisk began her career as a language teacher. She taught in the North Island and at schools in London and Paris.

At Otago Girls’ Eigh School she was heay of the French department

before being appointed principal of Christchurch Girls’ High School.

Miss Prisk was awarded a Woolf Fisher travelling scholarship in 1977. Mrs Trixie Cox, chairwoman of the school’s board of governors, paid tribute to Miss Prisk last evening.

“Miss Prisk’s tenure spanned undoubtedly the most difficult years in the history of the school. That we are now settled into the new school is due in

no small measure to the tenacity and dedication of Joan Prisk, whose belief in the school and its future were unshakable," Mrs Cox said. Miss Prisk had also played a large part in ensuring the success of the school’s centenary in 1977, said Mrs Cox. “I valued her friendship, sense of humour, and commitment and she will take her place as one of the outstanding principalsfef Christchurch Girls’ High School,” she said.
