Owners urged to secure yachts
Lyttelton yacht owners have been urged by the police to secure their vessels after nautical gear valued at more than $ll,OOO was taken from one recently. Burglars must have used a dinghy to reach the Aquila d’Oro, which was berthed in the inner harbour at Lyttelton. They boarded the vessel and smashed padlocks and forced doors to gain entry to the cabin, said a spokesman for the Lyttelton police. The burglary was discovered last week-end by the owner of the yacht, Mr David Cooper, of Christchurch.
A satellite navigation system valued about $3OOO was taken as well as a Kodan single sideband radio transmitter, also valued about $3OOO.

The Lyttelton police say that they want to hear of any suspicious activity on the waterfront.
