Smoking raises risk of strokes?

“There’s no question cigarette smoking is related to strokes, for both men and women, for all ages,” said Dr Philip Wolf, a researcher at Boston University who compiled data from the Framingham heart study, a survey of about 5000 residents of Framingham, Massachusetts. "The more you smoke, the higher your risk.” Women who smoke run a 30 per cent higher risk of stroke than nonsmokers, while the difference among men is 20 per cent, he said. “The results show a really ’ powerful effect from cigarettes,” Dr Wolf said.
He presented his findings at a conference sponsored by the American Heart Association that drew more than 500 doctors from a dozen countries.
