Sidecar victim’s name given

The Christchurch police have given the name of an Auckland woman killed in a collision between an articulated truck and a motor-cycle on State highway 7 near Hanmer Springs on Tuesday. She was

Helen Julie Lane, aged 27, of North Road, Clevedon.

Her husband, Russell Graham Lane, aged 31, suffered multiple injuries in the accident. He was reported seriously ill in Christchurch Hospital last evening, having been transferred from Queen Mary Hospital, Hanmer Springs.

The couple were on a vintage Harley-Davidson motor-cycle rally which was touring the South Island. Mr Lane was riding the motor-cycle and Mrs Lane was in its sidecar.

The accident occurred about 10 a.m. on Tuesday on State highway 7, about 2km north of the turn-off to Hanmer Springs.

The driver of the truck was not hurt.
