1987 Etude

A stylish all-new coupe, called the Etude and based on the mechanicals of the 323 heralds the start of Mazda’s 1987 model year. The Etude is a crisply styled coupe with bonded rear side windows that conceal the B and Cpillars and wrap around the rear to create visual continuity with the rear window.

Slightly longer and lower than the 323, but sharing the same wheelbase and track, it has the 323’s all-independent suspension, but reflects a more specialised marketing stance in that there is no engine choice. Only the 16-valve double overhead camshaft B 6 1.6-litre engine is available in the Etude. It is mated with either a five-speed manual gearbox or four-speed automatic transmission. The interior of the car is similar to that of the 323, although instrumentation and switchgear are new.
