Colonial Mutual

The Colonial Mutual Life investment-linked Superannuation Fund report for the December, 1986, quarter shows that the Fund’s managed unit, in which Colonial Mutual determines the mix between equity, fixed interest and property investments returned 13.9 per cent for the December quarter and contributed to the 56.6 per cent result for the December year.

The equity portfolio returned 24.9 per cent for the quarter and a record 124.5 per cent for the year. The fixed interest portfolio results for the quarter were affected by the significant rises in interest rates. Although this portfolio returned -0.7 per cent for the quarter, the return for the year was 17.5 per cent. Returns from the Property portfolio showed a significant increase to 11.1 per cent for the quarter and 31.9 per cent for the year, reflecting the rises in capital values of property holdings. The report’s review predicts fluctuations and volatility in the investment markets over the next six to nine months.
