Early retirement for Firestone staff
Early retirement or a change of job has been accepted by some salaried
staff at Firestone’s Christchurch factory as part of the company’s rationalisation plans.
. Seven or eight middlemanagement staff had accepted early retirement, and a younger supervisor had agreed to continue as a production worker, said a company spokesman yesterday. No other redundancy talks were planned.
All the staff who had been offered early retlre-
ment had accepted the package. They were aged between 55 and 63.
The other employee was about 35. He was offered a job as a production worker, changing
from his present job as a supervisor. The company spokesman said the change did not involve a drop in income. Production rubber workers earned $32,000 a year. The early retirements were expected to take
effect this month and in March.
