Addington market
Demand for store sheep
Small yardings of store lambs and adult breeding ewes ensured a strong sale for all types of store sheep at the Addington market yesterday.
Lamb prices rose at least $2 a head in response to a keen demand from fanners and a meat company. Top lambs reached $24 and several other pens made $2O to $23. Good quality medium lambs sold at $l6 to $l9, while most small lambs ranged from $l2 to $l6. Only poor types fetched less than $ll.
the small yarding of 3800 lambs (compared with 5700 last week) gave buyers very little scope to buy selectively.
Pre-lamb-shorn five-year-old Corriedales from Nukiwai Partnership, Culverden, reached $18.20 in another good sale of breeding ewes. Prices of all ewes were fully firm with recent rates, particularly those for light fattening-types. Sales of reasonable quality light ewes under $lO were uncommon. Several good > lines of annual draft ewes ranged from $l2 to $l7. Five-year-old Corriedales from P- D. H. Bush, Parnassus, reached $17,40, four-year Coopworths from Alec McLean, Omihi, made $l7, and four-year-old Corriedales from R. G. Morris, Cheviot, sold at $l6.

than last week’s.
