Riverfront land auctioned

Six sections of land on Waimairi Road opposite Bishop Julius Hostel of the University of Canterbury were sold at auction yesterday.

A seventh section included in the auction failed to reach its reserve price and was passed in. Private negotiations were continuing over this section and the auction organiser, Whittle, Knight and Boatwobd, said it expected the land to be sold soon. The six sections sold ranged in price between

$45,000 and $70,500 and all fetched well above their reserve, said Mrs Jan Ward, a real estate agent for Whittle, Knight and Boatwood.

The auction was well attended and the bidding brisk, she said. The seven sections had generated interest because they were considered some of the last pieces of undeveloped riverfront land left in Christchurch. The six sections sold were bought by individuals for residential housing, Mrs Ward added.
