Traditional stove design with modern features

One of the solid-fuel heaters cum cookers that will get frequent mention at Heating World from the staff is the Wamsler, a unit that has proved to be the best-selling unit in New Zealand for six years.

It is a product from a highly successful German company that was established in 1875 at Munich and by 1986 had'a staff of 430, with sales branches throughout the world. The company makes, and markets, a blend of units such as electric cookers, slow combustion stoves, gas stoves and the central heating cookers that are available from Heating world.

The central heating units are proving extremely popular in the South Island. There are four models for consumers to choose from when Ordering. These range in size from the compact “72” which will heat four 600 x 1500 mm double radiators and provide domestic hot water through to the popular “97” which can heat up to seven radiators of the size specified.

Other models such as the highly efficient “52" variety are designed primarily to provide a reliable type of central heating boiler that also features a cooking surface.

The Wamsler stoves provide a good example of how the old-style heating sources such as wood and coal can be used with maximum efficiency, according to Mr Laurice Teague of Heating World. He cites; features, such as the easy-to-clean surfaces, and the air-cooling of doors for safety as two examples of the thoughtful features these units incorporate.

The Wamsler ovens are of a fairly large size but heat up rapidly once the unit is in use because of the heat storage bricks which have been designed to provide an even temperature throughout. Depending on the way

users set the controls ol the units they can give priority to either the heating and hot water functions or to the cooker, or for initial lighting.

The Wamslers also feaure thermostat knob control for temperatures and useful, practical gauges that show water levels along with thermometers showing flow temperatures at any given time.

The hotplate areas are promoted as being “the largest usable hotplates of any range on the market." “They offer the best of both worlds giving delicious cooking, plus a warm home.” Mr Teague said.
