Govt blamed for postage prices
PA Wellington The blame for the latest postage price increases lies with the Government, said the Opposition spokesman on the Post Office, Mr Roger Maxwell. "The blame for this dramatic escalation of. costs of such an essential service can all be laid at the door of the political decisions made by the Government, such as GST and the blow-out of the previous wage round,” he
said. '% Prices under the Labour administration . had risen 66 per cent for a standard letter (up from 24c to 40c) and airmail letters 100 per cent (from 30c to 60c) and such increases were being used as a revenue gathering method. “As always, these price increases have the hardest impact on the family and retired people of ■: limited means, who do not have many discretionary dollars.”
