Up-market look to men’s knitwear with new patterns

With the recent introduction of a new catalogue of hand-knit designer patterns for men, knitwear for New Zealand men has become more up-market. Designed by European, Ulf Moritz, for Scheepjeswol, the catalogue, entitled Scheepjes Man, is attracting a lot of attention from young men.

Whereas men’s patterns were often plain catching few men’s imagination, Scheepjes Man’s patterns are distinctly European, without the “home-made” look about them.

The unusual approach in the book’s photography appeals to the fashion conscious male and female. Many women are buying the catalogue, preferring the bulk and warmth of men’s jerseys for the winter baggy look. Originally from Hol-

land, Ulf Moritz, was specially commissioned by Scheepjeswol to produce the eye-catching designs. His bold approach with texture, and his ability to combine this with bold stitch detail won him the respect of Scheepjeswol.

Moritz is well recognised as a designer for German fashion magazines, and the European fashion market He is especially noted for his innovation in male fashion. As a trend-setter in this area, his designs have been commissioned by many European fashion houses.

According to a local wool retailer, New Zealand men are becoming much more aware of overseas trends and look for unusual designs which currently come from Europe.

The designs vary from an elaborate colour scheme to double-toned, stripes, ski-type designs, and geometries. All are designed for formal and casual wear.

Patterns and knitting instruction are included, and pattern layouts can be enlarged on request by the manufacturers.

All yams needed for the patterns are easily found in wool retail outlets anywhere in Christchurch. Most retailers are very helpful with details in the pattern book.

Scheepjes Man is sold at most local outlets at $5.95.
