Voodoo Rhythm purchased
PA Wellington Thoroughbred Management, Ltd, has purchased the American-bred stallion, Voodoo Rhythm, for $3.9 million. A subsidiary of the company, Highview Bloodstock Pty, Ltd, outbid Australian breeder Sir Tristam Antico to buy the nine-year-old son of Northern Dancer, which stands at stud in Australia. Speaking from Melbourne, Thoroughbred Management director, Mr John Aubrey, said buying the stallion was part of the company’s plan to expand into the Australian market. He said Voodoo Rhythm would remain at stud in Victoria, though just where had yet to be decided. . “He’s very much the rage here at the moment and there was quite a bit of competition to buy him,” Mr Aubrey said. “He’s a lovely horse, very much like his sire, Northern Dancer, and he is doing very well.” Voodoo Rhythm’s first crop are now three-year-olds, and include VCR Derby (Group I) winner Raveneau and stakes' winner Rendoo. Out of a stake-winning mare, Obeah, Voodoo Rhythm won four races in the U.S.A. and is a brother to stakes-winner Dance Spell. Mr Aubrey said Voodoo Rhythm was likely to stand at a sAust2s,ooo service fee. The horse will be owned outright by Highview Bloodstock and he will be bred with some of the h4O mares owned by the Company next season.
