Bail on receiving charges
Bail was not opposed for a man, aged 32, facing six charges of receiving property, to a total value of $32,900, when he appeared before Judge Erber in the District Court yesterday. On the application of counsel, Mr S. C. Barker, the accused was granted interim suppression of his name. His bail was renewed. Before his next court appearance on February 9, Mr Barker is to obtain medical reports on his client.
The accused is alleged
to have committed the offences between September, last year, and January 10. Property said to have been received includes dictaphones, answerphones, radio telephones and accessories, chainsaws, skis, video recorders and a colour television. The accused is also charged with cultivating cannabis on January 10. BURGLARY CHARGE Bail was set at $3OOO for a man charged with
breaking and entering the Lincoln Road Supervalue supermarket on Sunday. Paul Statesman West, aged 36, a manager (Mr A. M. Mclntosh), was remanded to February 2. He faces an additional charge of receiving. No pleas were entered. CUSTODY Duane Samuel Wright, who faces seven charges — five involving vehicles — was remanded in custody to February 2. Wright, aged 19, a handcraftsman, is charged
with the theft of a $4OOO car, converting a $5OOO car, driving recklessly, driving under the influence of a drug, driving while disqualified, unlawful possession of a prescription medicine, and possessing nine cannabis “bullets.”
Police say the offending took place on January 20 and 25.
BURGLARY CHARGE Shaun Alfred O’Meagher, who is charged with breaking into a house in Silvester Street on January 22, was remanded on bail of $5OOO to February 2. O’Meagher, aged 19, unemployed, was also ordered to report to the police three times a week.
