Farmers forced to use feed
PA Hamilton Drought is forcing Waikato farmers to face the dilemma of whether to feed hay or silage to their stock and risk feed shortages in winter. The president ‘of Waikato Federated Farmers, Mr Malcolm Lumsden, said that there was already a shortage of winter supplementary feed because of low pasture growth this season. “Farmers are having to decide whether to use the feed now. or. try and keep it for later. They can solve one problem by creating another.”
Mr Lumsden said some dairy herds were already dry because of brownedoff paddocks. - ,
