Chilean forward leaves United
When the expanded 14team national soccer league gets under way this winter Christchurch United will be without its Chilean forward, Carlos Villazon. Villazon scored four goals for United in the national league last ■season, a tally bettered only by two of his teammates, John Hanson (14) and Johan Verwelj (6). The United coach, Mr lan Marshall, said yesterday that Villazon was going to Australia to join his brother, Agustin, with a Sydney team. “They’re twins so I suppose there’s a bit of a pull there,” Mr Marshall said. He added that financially things were better in Aus-
tralian soccer and he could understand the maw i >■ Carlos Villazon is still in Christchurch and the Christchurch United club has yet to receive an official request for his clearance. Earlier United lost two of its English-born midfield players, Chris Riley and Russell Cotton, to North Island clubs, but* will still have the services of Hanson, a striker. "We’re not doing too badly on -tbe comings and goings,” Mr Marshall said. United would be strengthening its squad this year, especially the second team which would be contesting the new travelling league.
