N.S.W. loses shield grip

NZPA-Reuter Sydney South Australia ended any chance New South Wales had of retaining the Sheffield Shield with a comprehensive 85-run victory on the final day of the four-day cricket match at the Adelaid Oval. The South Australians dismissed New South Wales for 261 in their second innings for their first Shield victory for 12 months. Western Australia moved further ahead in the Shield table with two points from their drawn match against Victoria at the Melbourne Cricket ground.. Former England offspinner Vic Marks took five for 55 as Victoria struggled to 223 for six in their second innings, still needing 12 runs to make the visitors bat again.
