Golfing representative

PA Whangarei Philip Tataurangi, aged 15, of Waikato, will represent New Zealand in the AsianPacific final of the international under-18 Doug Sanders Trophy golf tournament at Melbourne on March 3-4. This was announced yesterday by Mr Goldie Wardell, of Whangarei, chairman of the New Zealand Golf Council’s selection panel. Mr Wardell said two years ago New Zealand’s Matthew Lane won the corresponding event in Australia and went on to be runner-up in the world final, at St Andrews, Scotland.

The world finals this year will also be played at St Andrews, probably during August Mr Wardell also named a squad of 10 players to pre-

pare for selection in a sixmember New Zealand under--21 team to contest the Australian inter-state tournament at Brisbane during Easter. The squad is:Brendon Follows (Manawatu-Wanganui), Simon Forshaw (Auckland), Michael Long (Waikato), Wade Hoskin (Southland), Geoff Stephens (Auckland), Stuart Thompson (Wellington), Blair Smith (Auckland), Mark Tamuta (Canterbury), Philip Tataurangi (Waikato), Martin Tumata (Auckland). Paul Cadogan, of Waikato Was not available because of injury. The squad will play a trial at Auckland-on February 14 and 15.

A further trial will be held at a-date and venue yet to be decided before the final selection.
