Greens thriving West Germany’s radical Greens are enjoying a surge in support that could make them the third biggest party in nhtional politics after this month’s General Elections, according to opinion polls. Most surveys now put the antinuclear, anti-N.A.TO. Greens ahead of the liberal Free Democrats (F.D.P.), Chancellor Helmut Kohl’s coalition partners and the traditional third force in politics, with some forecasting that the Greens could double their vote to over 11 per cent— Bonn. Acting pays bills An Indian political leader who is a former movie star says politics is great but doesn’t pay the rent, so he will play a Hindu saint in his 293rd film to pay his party’s bills. “Our party is in dire need of funds and local elections are coming up,” said N. T. Rama Rao, the top elected official in southern Andhra Pradesh state, and president of the Telegu Desam party. His party is running an overdraft of five million rupees ($742,497), the United News of India reported.—New Delhi. Drugs watch Malaysia will build watch towers to be manned around the clock along its west coast to stem drug smuggling by boat from the Malacca Straits.
