Mrs Margaret Leaf
PA Auckland Mrs Margaret Jean Leaf, the first woman justice of the peace to preside over a court in Auckland, has died. She was 65. Mrs Leaf was made a Justice of the Peace in 1968 and appeared on the Bench for the first time that year. Mrs Leaf was born in Hamilton and was involved in many community groups throughout her Tife. She was a president
of the Auckland National Council of Women and was made a life member. Employed at the Dairy Board for many years, Mrs Leaf was responsible for founding the first Soroptimist Club (a women’s club similar to Rotary) in Singapore. She was awarded a Queen’s Service Medal for services to the community. Mrs Leaf is survived by her husband and daughter. fl
